When we first started dating a large portion of our relationship was long distance. We spent some time traveling back and forth and working hard to ensure that our relationship was a priority among the many obligations in our lives like school, work, and family. Fast forward a couple of years and we were both living in our first apartment together in Virginia. Wine wasn’t something either one of us had any interest in, or had any knowledge of, but it certainly turned into something that brought us together. It was just one random weekend trip to the Williamsburg Winery that cultivated our interest in wine. In this interest, we found a hobby that we both enjoyed pursuing together. Not only did we love the wine, but we loved the atmosphere at the winery, and oftentimes celebrated milestones by visiting and purchasing a bottle of wine to commemorate the occasion. With that being said, it was the perfect place to propose to my future wife.

To be honest, the staff at the winery made all the difference in planning the proposal. During one of our many visits I was able to sneak off and speak to one of the staff members about my desire to propose to my wife at the winery. I spent several weeks after that initial conversation planning and discussing each minute detail of how and when I would propose to my future wife. After much deliberation, I finally settled on proposing in the cellar during a Reserve Tour. Prior to the proposal, the staff and I would go over the route, where the proposal would take place, and exactly when during the tour they would let me split off from the group to propose.

As the date quickly approached, I was getting increasingly more nervous, especially being in a group with several strangers who would be there every step of the way to bear witness to this huge turning point in our lives. As luck would have it, the rest of the party in the Reserve Tour had to cancel last minute, which meant that my soon to be fiancé and I had an intimate tour just between the both of us. I’m not sure if this was an act of God or if the staff had something to do with it, but I prefer to think that it was the latter. To say that the staff helped to make this a memorable experience is an understatement. Words can’t describe all the work they did to make that day special for us. It is without a doubt one of the fondest moments in my relationship with my wife. All in all, the variety of wine at the Williamsburg Winery, with each one having its own unique history and composition, is what had us interested, but the friendly and knowledgeable staff is what kept us coming back week after week. We wouldn’t change a single thing about that day and we look forward to visiting the winery again, but this time with our baby girl.
