Venice was at the height of its powers during the XV and XVI Centuries. A commercial superpower located at the Northern part of the Adriatic Sea, it traded all over the Mediterranean and beyond. Venice is noted for its canals, gondolas and numerous palaces. Its extraordinarily rich artistic heritage from the Italian Renaissance cannot be overlooked.
From its entrance lobby, with its 250-year-old studded, heavy, wooden double door imported from India, the Suite opens into a large sitting room. With an 18-foot ceiling, the room is decorated on the eaves with two frescoes painted by Richmond artist Lainie Gratz. The frescoes were inspired by paintings in the Palazzo del Te in Mantua. The walls are rich burgundy color with white trim. The marble fireplace is flanked by two wall columns that rise to the beams supporting the peaked roof. On the side of the sitting room is a small study furnished with a convertible sofa and a washroom. The bedroom is located in a loft and is accessed by private stairs on the side of the sitting room. The walls are decorated with numerous paintings. Furnishings have all been specially selected to reflect the opulent style of an Italian Renaissance palace.
