Normandy, a province of France, takes its name from the Norsemen who sailed their longboats from the North Sea and established themselves here during the IX Century. United with England following the Battle of Hastings in 1066, Normandy eventually was regained by the French crown in the XV Century. Its strategic location made it the landing site of the Allied armies, which went on to liberate Western Europe during World War II. Cheese is an important product of this pastoral area.
The room features an imported French fabric on the wall above the heavy bed. Also hanging in the room is an original hand-colored engraving of Rouen, the capital of Normandy.
